MOTS-c (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA Type-c) is a synthetic 16-amino acid mitochondrial-derived peptide (MDP) with the sequence MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR, molecular formula C₁₀₁H₁₅₂N₂₈O₂₂S₂, a molecular weight of approximately 2,174.55 Da, and CAS number 1627580-64-6. MOTS-c is one of the few known peptides encoded by the mitochondrial genome (within the 12S rRNA gene, MT-RNR1), making it a key research tool for studying mitochondria-to-nucleus retrograde signaling.
