Description

KPV is a synthetic tripeptide consisting of the amino acid sequence Lysine-Proline-Valine (Lys-Pro-Val), with molecular formula C₁₆H₃₀N₄O₄, a molecular weight of approximately 342.43 Da, and CAS number 67727-97-3. KPV represents the C-terminal bioactive fragment (residues 11-13) of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH), retaining the receptor binding signaling properties of the parent molecule while lacking melanocortin receptor binding and melanogenic activity.

In laboratory research, KPV is extensively studied for its inhibition of the NF-κB signaling pathway, including IκBα stabilization and prevention of NF-κB nuclear translocation. Additional research applications include PepT1 (hPepT1) oligopeptide transporter-mediated cellular uptake studies in intestinal epithelial models, receptor binding, cytokine production modulation assays (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8), MAPK signaling cascade (ERK1/2, p38, JNK) interactions, macrophage polarization experiments, colonic epithelial barrier function assessments, and dendritic cell maturation studies. KPV’s small tripeptide structure and interaction with the PepT1 transporter system make it a valuable tool for intestinal peptide absorption and mucosal immune signaling research.
