Epithalon (Epitalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide with the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG), molecular formula C₁₄H₂₂N₄O₁₀, a molecular weight of approximately 390.35 Da, and CAS number 307297-39-8. Developed as a synthetic analog of the pineal gland peptide epithalamin, Epithalon belongs to the Khavinson bioregulator peptide series.
In laboratory research, Epithalon is utilized in telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) gene expression studies, telomerase activity assays (TRAP — Telomeric Repeat Amplification Protocol), telomere length analysis (qPCR, Southern blot/TRF analysis), cell population doubling time experiments, replicative senescence pathway investigations, and peptide-gene promoter interaction studies.
